Police Officer William Kaemmerling succumbed to injuries sustained eight days earlier when his motorcycle struck a mail carrier's car while patrolling Grand Avenue (modern-day Wisconsin Avenue), between 13th Street and 14th Street.

Officer Kaemmerling had served with the Milwaukee Police Department for five years.
