Residency: The Journey To Freedom

(Reprinted from July 2016 Badge.)

Freedom from an absolute residency lockdown was all that was asked. To be free from an archaic [nearly 80year old] Residency Rule that served no value that could be qualified legitimately. The City [Mayor Barrett] clearly was opposed to lifting the rule; the requirement to work in the city - you must live within the boundary of the city. Initially all we [MPA] asked was to enter into discussion as to the absolute of the requirement; the City postured as to an unwillingness to even discuss the issue.
